Annual Report of the American Bible Society
Founded in 1786, the American Bible Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to “providing resources to support the Bible’s role in everyday life.” Through its various programs, it helps to ensure that the Bible is widely available to the public. For more information, check out its website.
Old Testament
Among the many reports published by the American Bible Society, one is the Old Testament Annual Report of the American Bible Society, which contains useful information. This report traces the history of the Society. It also contains a listing of the main contributors to the Bible.
In 1832, the Bible Society of the Confederate States of America was established. After the Civil War, the Society continued to publish Scriptures. The Society printed Bibles in more than 83 languages, and it celebrated its centennial service in China in 1934. The American Bible Society continues to publish Scriptures with its partner printing presses.
In 1865, the American Bible Union published its Revised version of the New Testament. The revision was prepared by Thomas J. Conant, who had resigned from the Rochester Theological Seminary in 1857 to devote his time to scholarly works for the Bible Union. He wrote long scholarly introductions and commentaries, and he prepared revisions of Samuel, Ezekiel, and Jeremiah. He also produced the commentaries.
At a later conference, the Society sought to revise the New Testament with great care. A committee was appointed to produce an improved version. The revision was based on the Bible Union version. However, there was a great deal of discord among the members of the Committee. Among other objections, they disagreed with the substitution of official titles for those of historical personages. They also objected to the substitution of unknown names for those of historical personages.
Forgotten Books
Besides the usual suspects, Forgotten Books offers a wide selection of books that range from the mundane to the sublime. The website has a well stocked online library of over a million books. With the growing number of subscribers, the quality of its offerings should continue to improve. For example, it has recently introduced a new online catalog containing books by genre, including fiction, non-fiction, and reference. The site has also incorporated state-of-the-art technology to digitally reconstruct works and repair imperfections found in aged copies. The company is also actively looking for ways to improve its offerings. Its website features a collection of audits, minutes, surveys, genealogy data, and more. In addition to its online library, Forgotten Books also has a brick and mortar store in New York City’s East Village. Aside from its selection of titles, the company also offers a range of services and incentives for subscribers. The company is also known for its affordable prices. In short, Forgotten Books is one of the best online places to buy classic and rare books. Whether you’re a bibliophile or simply looking to add a little spice to your reading list, Forgotten Books is the place to start.
The company’s flagship store in New York City has an eclectic selection of titles. The site features hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books as well as image-over-text editions of works by the likes of Sigmund Freud, Edgar Allan Poe, and Charles Dickens.
Disaster relief
Among the many things that the American Bible Society has done for millions of people, disaster relief is not an exception. For example, Hurricane Harvey devastated Houston, Texas and put one third of the city underwater. In the aftermath, the American Bible Society donated thousands of Bibles to the beleaguered city. And, according to its Annual Report, it also made a lot of other contributions that were not quite as eye-catching, but no less impressive.
The American Bible Society has done a lot in the way of disaster relief, but its work with churches to provide resources is probably its most notable achievement. One of the best examples of this is the Beyond Disaster program, which has been distributed by the Society in the United States and in other countries around the world. The program features digital and printed materials aimed at helping disaster survivors recover.
The American Bible Society also made a number of other contributions, from providing Bibles in the final hours of a hurricane to helping a city flip houses after a flood. The most impressive one, however, was the most obvious. In addition to its usual religious literature, the organization also distributed 50,000 free Gospels, more than any other organization.
The Southern Baptist Convention, in particular, has a massive disaster response. The organization has more trained disaster relief volunteers than either the Red Cross or Salvation Army.
